Amtrak train hits abandoned car
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- An Amtrak train carrying 195 passengers early Saturday (Oct. 24) morning struck an abandoned vehicle that had become stuck on the railroad tracks, television station WTVD reported.

The accident happened around 1:20 a.m. on Whitfield Street near Camden Road, where the tracks were closed for repairs.

Authorities said the car, a 2000 Mercury Sable, belonged to 37-year-old Devlin Washington.

Police said they did not known if Washington was the driver of the car at the time it got stuck on the tracks.

The investigation is currently ongoing.

Further details about the accident have not been released.
